Nothing Happened Today

All kinds of versions of the word “no” had been uttered from my lips and typed by fingers during this last week’s mad land-grab for pie. Most regrettably Thursday’s evening of thin slices, and the promise of only one pie for Annabel’s accidental multitudes. And the ultimate sadness: the complete denial of pie for Laura’s post-Hawaiian victory dinner.

I would be lying if I didn’t say it was a blistering day. And after the debacle of yesterday’s baking, I purposefully attended to every detail of Saturday morning’s pie. It emerged all bubbly and delicious. Then off I went to run errands and perhaps refresh my spirit with the company of giant balloon dogs and vintage vacuum cleaners.

I was buying my tomatoes for Sunday’s BLTs when I stumbled upon this sign:

The answer to the question is: “All I could carry.”

That would be eight quarts or 12 lbs of cherries.
Add to that 5 lbs of tomatoes, and a few zucchinis.

I told you it was hot on the subway, right?

As you guessed, I didn’t make it to the Whitney Museum on this particular Saturday afternoon.

No matter to me. Life is just a flat of cherries, and happiness is being able to say, “Yes!”
