Harlem Pie Brunch

with one comment

The Harlem Breakfast Club met for pie. These two pies had been touted as the last of the season in the invitation but that was before Saturday afternoon’s windfall.

As the two pies baked in the oven, I fried up three pounds of bacon and made some saffron aioli. We assembled our own BLTs using the perfectly ripe summer tomatoes I had bought the day before. On toast. From a toaster. My very own toaster. My new toaster. A gift toaster. I love warm toast especially slathered with golden mayo, piled with drippy tomato, smoky bacon and crisp romaine lettuce. It’s not a good sandwich unless you need a napkin.

Who was there to break in my toaster and eat not the last pies after all? John, Wade, Kate, Elona, Richard, Kelly, Graham, HRM the Princess of Harlem, Lisa, Erik and the Argentina vs Germany World Cup Finals. Most of us had second slices of pie. Others perhaps had thirds. Sorry Argentina.

Oh! And Erik brought his special friend. Pie makes him happy. See how much he loves pie?
